Description

Ingredients

  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in egg, molasses, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  5. Divide dough into two discs, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  8. Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set.
  9. Cool completely before decorating if desired.
