- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
- In a separate bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg, molasses, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until a dough forms.
- Divide dough into two discs, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
- Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set.
- Cool completely before decorating if desired.
