Description

Sourdough Bread

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • ¾ cup warm milk (or water)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (tossed with 1 tablespoon flour)

Lemon Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, melted butter, and egg.
  2. Add flour and salt and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Gently fold in blueberries.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 4–6 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let rise for another 2–3 hours until puffy.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Cool completely. Whisk glaze ingredients together and drizzle over cooled bread before serving
