Sourdough Bread
- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- ¾ cup warm milk (or water)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (tossed with 1 tablespoon flour)
Lemon Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, melted butter, and egg.
- Add flour and salt and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Gently fold in blueberries.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 4–6 hours or until doubled in size.
- Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise for another 2–3 hours until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool completely. Whisk glaze ingredients together and drizzle over cooled bread before serving
