  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup cocoa powder (for chocolate layer)
  • 1 cup strawberry purée (from fresh strawberries)
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three round cake pans and dust with flour.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Divide the batter into three bowls: leave one plain for vanilla, mix cocoa powder into another for chocolate, and add strawberry purée to the last for strawberry flavor.
  5. Pour each batter into its respective pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks. Once cooled completely, stack layers with frosting between each.
